This does depend a little on what you’re growing but in general if you’re growing things like leafy greens you can expect to start harvesting in about 3 weeks which has been the case for many of our members.
Many of our members are renting and there are lots of things you can do to make this work for you, such as growing in pots which we show you how to do in module 2. You can also go with a small pre-made option such as a half wine barrel or you can even build a smaller bed and attach wheels to it that will allow you to move your bed around. Don’t let the fact that you’re renting hold you back, you can definitely do this!
Yes! Years ago we set up a garden for a single mum in a big apartment building that only had a TINY balcony to grow on. There was no grass in sight and it was a VERY small balcony. We built a smaller version of our healthy patch garden beds that we show you how to make in the program. We then put wheels on it so she could move it across her small balcony to maximise sun exposure. So yes you can definitely do this if you only have a balcony, or a deck, or a small concrete courtyard. No grass is required.
Yes absolutely, this whole program works great with wicking beds - especially the soil formula! We have many members choosing to grow in wicking beds if they’re in hot or dry climates and it’s always worked great.

"I’ve been on my own health journey after being diagnosed with an autoimmune condition 9 years ago, which led me to undertake a lot of research into how to be at my most healthy self. All of my research led me to an understanding of just how important it is to eat not just wholefoods, but certified organic wholefoods that aren’t subject to all the chemical sprays, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, fertilisers & sanitisers that are standard practice in the growing & supply of regular produce that we buy from the local supermarket. "If you are sitting on the fence deciding do you/don't you or is it worth the money, will you really keep this up after the initial program ends. Then let me tell you take a leap of faith and you won't be sorry. I started gardening when I was 15, nearly 43 years ago and although I can grow all kinds of plants, sadly it wasn't the same when it came to growing healthy veggies for my family, it was always a sad dismal outcome! "Before this programme, I’d started growing vegetables for the first time and was having some success. But I felt very unorganised and I didn’t know enough to make the most of my efforts. I built some raised bed gardens right on top of my lawn but didn’t know how many chemicals were in that soil so wasn’t confident my vegetables were organic.
The support Crystal and Anth gave us was truly amazing. I was concerned the course would be very Australia focused. But they had researched garden materials in NZ and were able to give us Kiwi’s a lot of information about various garden materials and where to get them, even troubleshooting for those of us in smaller places where availability is often limited.

I have enjoyed being thrilled about things like mushroom compost! My garden is becoming a neighbourhood talking point (in a good way), and has been a communal effort for sure! I had tried container gardening with little success. Transplanting some of my perpetual spinach from the pot into the patch really illustrated how things THRIVE in the formula whereas they existed in the pot!
I am going to apply what I have learnt in the course to set up a healthy patch formula bed at the kindergarten I teach at to grow and share healthy produce with the children and their families. "So excited to get up in the morning and look at my veg garden. The plants are thriving. We have been growing “surviving” (not thriving) plants for years and were frustrated in the time and amount of water we applied to our plants. We had mulched, fertilised and seasoled but only fed insects and had weak crops except for silverbeet. I can't believe the rate of growth. We planted nearly 5 weeks ago and already picking greens. "We've always enjoyed growing our own stuff but we bumbled along not having much success.We are now reaching abundance.
Our celery is coming along nicely and we planted another lot yesterday. We have so many cucumbers and have planted more plants today. Tomatoes are also coming along and we no longer buy lettuce or greens.
Just to highlight the difference our next door neighbors have a veggie patch that has been decimated by caterpillars, so your tips are so valuable.
We are going to lose a lawned area in our garden soon and that will all be raised beds with pathways between and then we really should be inundated.

"When I bought The Healthy Patch course back in December I really had no interest in gardening and just wanted to grow my own food for health benefits and so I knew where my food was coming from. My fiance thought it was another one of my fads and that I'd lose interest before the garden even went in.
Well the first garden bed went in mid Feb and the second one went in about 6 weeks later after seeing how well the first one was going. I've never grown so much healthy produce before!
This morning I was able to harvest a whole bunch of veggies and herbs from my garden to make our Easter meal today… Rocket, baby spinach, nasturtium, capsicum, radishes and cherry tomatoes for a salad.
Roasted a leg of lamb with 5 or 6 different herbs from my herb garden, sautéed my radish greens with my garlic chives, and all other herbs used all from the garden.
I am absolutely over the moon that I have been able to grow all this myself and provide my family with a mostly home grown meal.”
